About Bicarbonate of Soda

The manufacturers of Bicarbonate of Soda have stated that the packaging is free from plastic.

Bicarbonate of Soda, Baking Soda, Bicarb, whatever you want to call it, this is a very versatile addition to your kitchen cupboard.

It can neutralise acid, scrub shiny materials without scratching, deodorise, and extinguish grease fires. It can be used as a deodoriser in the refrigerator, on smelly carpets, on upholstery and on vinyl. It can help deodorise drains. It can clean and polish aluminium, chrome, jewellery, plastic, porcelain, silver, stainless steel and tin. It can soften fabrics and remove certain stains and also soften hard water.

Bicarbonate of soda, or baking soda, is also used in baking to raise soda breads and full-flavoured cakes such as gingerbread, fruit cake, chocolate cake and carrot cake. It needs an acid (as well as moisture) to activate it so is often combined with cream of tartar, yoghurt, buttermilk or milk.

You can keep some in your baking cupboard and some more in your cleaning cupboard!

Incredibly useful stuff this bicarb, obviously you use it in baking ( I add 2 spoons of cream of tartar to 1 of bicarb to make my own baking powder) but it also cleans the house without destroying the planet! I think everyone should have it in their house.
